Are You Ready For the Complications That Come With Marriage?

This can really be a great conflict. What are we to do? Where is the balance? What does the scripture say?
1Co 7:32 (KJV)
But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

First of all let’s take a look at two more translations.

1Co 7:32 (AMPC)
My desire is to have you free from all anxiety and distressing care. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord--how he may please the Lord;

1Co 7:32 (MSG)
I want you to live as free of complications as possible. When you're unmarried, you're free to concentrate on simply pleasing the Master.

So, what the scripture is saying here essentially is that marriage comes with complications!

Is that true? Very true!

Human beings are complex. A man has his attendant complexities. Even so, a woman has more complicating complexities by virtue of her wiring.

These two come together in marriage.

And then the complications arise from two different people who have lived apart now coming to live together.

In verse 35, Apostle Paul tried further too explain why he made that statement.

1Co 7:35 (MSG)
I'm trying to be helpful and make it as easy as possible for you, not make things harder. All I want is for you to be able to develop a way of life in which you can spend plenty of time together with the Master without a lot of distractions.

Apostle Paul, says if it is possible, stay single so that you can please the Lord.

But we all know nobody wants to follow thee advice off Apostle Paul!

We all want too get married,. And that is good. I am married as well.

According to Apostle Paul, his argument is that:

1Co 7:33-34 (MSG)
Marriage involves you in all the nuts and bolts of domestic life and in wanting to please your spouse,
34  leading to so many more demands on your attention. The time and energy that married people spend on caring for and nurturing each other, the unmarried can spend in becoming whole and holy instruments of God.

So what do we do? You want to marry and you want to please the Lord!

None must be compromised.

Here are a few things I think you should take note of.

1. Marry a born again Christian like you. That way you both have one goal; pleasing the Lord.

2. Be prepared through reading, learning and studying. One way to prepare is for both of you to get on KHC and daily discuss the devotionals.

3. Pray a lot. Pray more. And then pray more still.

4. Seek wisdom from those who have done what you are trying to do.

5. Deal with personal weaknesses.

6. Ensure you know what it means to be meek; to be teachable.

7. Love him or her genuinely. Don’t get into a relationship with someone you don’t really love.

8. Ensure both of you are God chasers. God lovers.

9. Confront each other in love, and make necessary changes.

10. Forgive easily. Don’t marry a man or woman you cannot forgive.

I will stop here this morning.

Be blessed!

I pray that God will honor His word in your life this week and bless you indeed.

This week, God will make you laugh!

Have a glorious and a testimony filled week!
