'I Do' Must Keep On Being 'I Am Doing'

There is nothing new under the sun. Mistakes that would be made have occurred before somewhere else. There are no custom made problems, and there is nothing that faces you that is devoid of a way of escape.
No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always be there to help you come through it. (1 Corinthians 10:13 Message)
So basically, you learn from others in other not to repeat their mistakes. I wish I have somebody to send me email daily on devotionals and then in the night send prayer points to me that will at least remind me to pray before going to bed.
I did not even have an email in my university days, anyway! There was nothing like that when I was an undergraduate!
But there were still ways to learn in those days. And we tried to learn all we could learn.
So this morning, we will take a look at a few things to ponder on and sort out so that “I do” will not become “I don’t” or “I didn’t.”
“I do” must keep on being “I am doing” and “I will continue to do!
The first thing to ponder on is this:
Is the foundation intact and well laid?
What is the foundation? What is the foundation of a successful marital life? What is that one thing that serves as a foundational structure that holds a marriage and translates a courtship into marriage successfully?
If marriage is something we build, then marriage is like a building or a structure. If marriage is akin to a building, then the reality is that it must have a foundation because all buildings have a foundation.
Foundations are important part of a building. The taller a building is, the further down the foundation would be. No wonder Jesus talked about building on the rock and building on the sand. It is a world of difference.
So, what is the foundation?
The foundation is God!
The foundation for any successful structure is God.
Structure that you bring up without God will soon be decorated with fractures and will eventually collapse!
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:11 KJV)
A successful courtship or marriage is predicated on having the right foundation, which is God
Yes, you are in love, butterflies are flying in your tummy, when you hear his voice, your knees weaken, but is your lover a lover of God?
You both love yourselves, and that is great! But do both of you also love God? It is your love for God that will stabilize you and help you to build a great home!
You know he doesn’t have God in his life and he has no regard for God. Very soon, he will have no regard for you as well. You know she detests any thing that has to do with God, and yet you are planning to walk down the aisle? Think twice, because everybody eventually gets to live with his or her decision.
The part that happens in counseling a lot is when I have to listen to people weep painfully, and with regret-laden voice narrate their mistakes.
Listen to me, before you fall in love, before you are swept off your feet, before you allow your emotions to give direction to your senses, is God in his or her life? Is he a God lover? Is she a God chaser?
That is the kind of person to go for!
One of the ways to attract such a person is to become the person yourself. Go after God, my dear! Pursue Christ and leave religion alone.
When you go after God in your wretchedness and helplessness, God will come after you in His blessing, favour and concrete direction.
He will come into your life and turn it around. He will take your mess and turn it into a message. He will give you a meaning in life; He will cause you to stand before kings.
I pray for you this morning, from the depths of my heart, your life will make meaning. God will honour you and lift you up. He will lift up your head even as you decide to go after Him in Jesus name!

Lord, make my heart to pant after you always

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. (Proverbs 14:1 KJV)

A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it (Proverbs 31:10-11 Message)

Pray before making that decision.

2 Samuel 8-9; 1 Chronicles 18
