The Other Side Of Forgiveness

Hmmn, God's ways are definitely not our ways. To enjoy God's blessings, we must be ready to do what He asks us to do. It is a simple instruction, yet not easy to obey, I agree.

On this side of eternity, people will hurt us. Their hurts will be deep and some even deeper. Yet, God's standard remains for all to obey. It is indeed human to err, but divine to forgive.

I want to agree that there are indeed various degrees and levels of hurt. Some hurts and offences can be avoided while others cannot be avoided. For the ones you can avoid, please do and maintain your sanity. For the ones you can not avoid, be prepared to forgive. In fact, practice advance forgiveness.

Most of the time, it is easier to handle hurts and offenses from people not close to us. The most difficult hurts to deal with are those from our spouses. The devil knows this well and so will forever use that as a weapon against the unity in our marriages.

I read this from Joyce Meyer who explained that there is another side to forgiveness. Luke 6:26-27 talks about how to treat those who hurt us. Now, it is a common occurrence, that most times we truly want to forgive, we know the dangers of not forgiving, we even pray and ask for grace to forgive.

Despite all these, we still see that we hurt and find it difficult to forgive. What could be responsible? Joyce explained what the Lord told her, that forgiveness must be backed up with blessing or praying for those who hurt us especially our spouses. This we must do consciously.

The other side of forgiveness is the "Praying and blessing" for the person who hurts us.

Now, the prayer is for God to open the eyes of the understanding of the person to understand how they are hurting us and then for God's blessing to give them a right heart that is pleasing to God.

In this way, you let go of the hurt to God, you release the hurt to God, so he can heal your heart and emotions and also work on the other person too.

This exercise heals our wounded heart, comforts and soothes our bruised emotions. Whatever surrounds the hurt, whether our insensitivity, our ignorance, stubbornness or that of our spouse, God has a way of stepping in and correcting all that needs to be corrected.

Our frailties, temperamental weaknesses and backgrounds may also add to how deeply we hurt, but once we hand over things to God, He goes deep into sorting the issues out.

Let's trust God together in our homes to rid it of all forms of unforgiving spirit, hurts, offenses and malice. Remember, nothing must stop the blessings of rejoicing God has in store for us this year.

God bless your marriage.
