    COMPROMISE IS NOT AN OPTION

    Friday 24th February, 2017

Many times in our lives, we are faced with circumstances that make us consider changing our principles for us to be accepted in our environment, either in our work places, peer groups or society at large. We feel very weird because we are different and every other person seem to look perfect. We are seen as ‘extremists’ or ‘religious’ or ‘holy than thou’ then people isolate us and we feel lonely and start reconsidering our values; not because they are wrong but because we want to be accepted.

However, I have come to realize that seeking acceptance is good and is a right because we are human, made for relationships. But the questions are:

    • From whom are you seeking acceptance?

    • The acceptance you are seeking will it make you a better person or make you worse?

    • What will be the end result?

Let me share with you a popular but spectacular story. Once upon a time, there was a Kingdom ruled by an unstable man, he had many servants who were magicians, wise men, astrologers and soothsayers amongst others. He decided one day to make an image as his god that must be worshipped by all his country people compulsorily at a particular time that will be announced by blowing of cornets, flutes, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer and all kinds of music. Anyone who disobeyed this order would be killed by being thrown into the fiery furnace. Out of fear, everyone did this except three friends. When the society saw this, the people reported to the King and the King sent for the “defaulters.”

Now does that sound familiar? Of course, it’s the story of Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego in Daniel 3:8-30.

These people were Israelites brought in as captives with their friend Daniel among many others and were chosen specially by the King to serve him (The King) because of their uniqueness. Just before the decree, they were made Ministers of Affairs in Babylon because of the King’s problem that Daniel solved and was promoted.

Hearing this decree, they still held on to God and when they went sent for, the remained resolute and boldly told the king; ‘we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.’ Dan. 3:16b-18. The king was furious and ordered that the furnace be increase seven times and commanded MIGHTY MEN IN HIS ARMY to bind these three Hebrew brothers and cast them into the fiery furnace v.20-21. These brothers were ‘bound in their coats, their hones, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.’ It was so hot that it SLEW THE MEN that threw them into the fire so the Hebrew men fell down bound into the fire v 23. To his surprise something happened, Nebuchadnezzar, expected them to scream in agony and die with excruciating pains but he saw something strange, ‘taboo’, A-B-O-M-I-N-A-T-I-O-N! EEE MO! (Taboo in Yoruba Language). Let’s read on: Dan. 3:24-27:

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.

And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

To cut the story short, this led to the conversion of the king, revival in Babylon and promotion of the Hebrew Youths.

This piece is to encourage and remind you out there that you are not alone; no matter the circumstance you may be going through NEVER compromise your stand with God or as a child of God. You are in that situation for a promotion in your life, the revival of many and the change of a nation, wherever you are, as long as you stand for God you will be tried and tested but your ability to remain resolute in God is what determines the outcome.

With every new level is a devil. In God, compromise is not an option, you are either for him or against him, there is no middle, indifference or balance of the world or you. In as much as you cannot look up and down at the same time, you cannot serve God and satan at the same time, you compromise you loose. But if you stay strong in Him, Jesus will appear in your situation and the situation (Fire) will only burn the problems and leave you not just untouched but refined. You may be thrown in bound but you will come out loosed. You will come out as a testimony and because of you, there will be revival in the land. Stay strong, hold on, be encouraged. God bless you!
