Former England captain, David Beckham has given his full support to former galactico team mate, Louis Figo in his bid to contest the FIFA president with elections in May.
Louis Figo made public his desire to become the number one footballer in January and is the only ex player in the race for FIFA presidency. Others are incumbent Swiss, Joseph Blatter vying for a fifth term, Jordan’s Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein and Dutch FA president Michael van Praag for the role.
Beckham, the free kick maestro said FIFA needed people that are passionate about the round leather game. He said, "Any successful organisation needs to have good people who are passionate about the game and want to do the best for fans".
Figo, the 2001 Best footballer retired form active football in 2008 and has served on the UEFA Football Committee from 2011 to 2015, issued a statement on January 28 saying he would run a campaign for change, focusing on “better governance, more transparency, increased solidarity and the protection of true football values”.
